. . .officially got into the race today. At last we have a candidate! For a lot of reasons, I think Rick Perry will win the nomination, and go on to defeat Obama in November 2012. More on that later. For now, Governor Perry's splendid timing totally upstages the (rather silly) Iowa straw poll, and makes it a two-and-a-half man race: Perry vs. Romney plus the survivor of all the others.

He looka good, and since you are form that neck of the woods, I'll take you endoersement over the offical hype.
I'm not quite so convinced he's the next president anymore. He's certainly not looking good in the debates! Here's hoping Chris Christie throws his hat in the ring...
Jake, I have been underwhelmed by Perry thus far, but he's just started. Romney's been running for five years, it would be freaky if he didn't look better in debates.
I'm not a Christie fan, if only because, being a gun owner, I'm not a supporter of renewing the Assault Weapons ban, as Gov. Christie is.
More globally, I tend to distrust the concept of a Blue State candidate (one of my knocks on Romney) because I think they have to make too many compromises that won't play in the Red States to obtain office. The fact that they are philosophically capable of doing so gives me cause for pause.
I really wish there was another Southern candidate (the South is, after all, the Republican heartland) or that Mitch Daniels had gotten in. Unfortunately, the best possibility out there happens to be stuck with the last name of "Bush."
It may be unfortunate that Perry didn't fare better. Personally I couldn't stomach another Texas guy but it seemed like he was an authentic candidate.
Agree with you on Christie. He's good for a sound bite but other than taking on public sector unions he's too far off the res for me.
