Well, St. Barack has flip-flopped on offshore drilling. Now he says he's for it, saying that he could support it as long as it's part of a "comprehensive energy policy" and was a "careful well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage."
If he's serious, that's plain good sense, and shows that Obama has a nodding acquaintance with reality when it's politically imperative for him to do so.
Wonder how Nancy "Save the Planet" Pelosi's going to feel about St. Barack throwing her under the bus? Getting awful crowded under there.

The best hope seems to be that the internal divisions in the Democratic party will be fodder for a good minority leader. Hope we get two of them.
Obama only came out for drilling after Congress went on a 5 week recess and Pelosi prevented a vote on drilling. This is an important and overlooked fact.
Pelosi comes from San Francisco. She will suffer no political harm from this. San Francisco is beyond hope or redemption, her district will still support her.
However, by blocking the vote she gives Obama cover. Pelosi and the recess mean Obama won't have to face making a meaningful vote on lifting the offshore drilling ban for at least 5 weeks, more likely ever. Pelosi blockng the House vote means anything Obama does in the Senate will be empty and void of all meaning. He can jump, yell, do anything he wants for the cameras (and the rubes in flyover country), and everyone that matters knows that.
More importantly, Obmam did NOT come out in favor of drilling, his position was far more "nuanced". What he said was he might support some offshore drilling, as part of an overall plan, on Tuesday's in May when the Moon is full and if the stars are in the correct alignment, etc. etc. etc. It was enough of a "change" that reporters could start driving the "Obama is FOR drilling" story, but not enough that he will actually be held accountable for it.
So Obama will talk about the need for offshore drilling, in nuanced terms...but it will be reported to sound like he's the reincarnation of Pattillo Higgins, so it SOUNDS like he's on the right side of the issue.
However nothing will actually HAPPEN. No votes will be taken, at least no meaningful ones.
Then, if Obama becomes President, anything he actually said in favor of drilling will go straight down the memory hole. He will oppose lifting the ban because the bill doesn't include a provision regulating the amount of caffene in energy drinks...and aren't energy drinks a part of a meaningful solution to our energy crisis?
Quite possibly you are correct anon., on all counts, and I rather suspect that you are.
You mean you DON'T think caffeinated energy drinks are a vital part of finding solutions to our total energy picture ?
