Wretchard, over at Belmont Club, has a very interesting piece today concerning, inter alia, the apprehensions of some of the brighter denizens of Big Media about the intentions of the political monster they have built. But Wretchard's most arresting thought on our coming Leader is how he is:
. . .no longer just running for President but striding forward to claim his destiny. Once the expectation of an Obama victory exceeds a certain point an actual electoral defeat would cause psychological damage to the trust mechanisms of [the] political system, like a long announced celebration party or holiday that unaccountably never happens. He’s a runaway. .
Now there's an interesting question. As I said the other day, it's like the media has held its election, and Obama has already won. In all but name, he is the President-Elect. We're just waiting till he takes office.
What if, in spite of all expectations, that turns out not to be true ? What if Destiny is denied; the hopes and expectations of right-thinging people all over the world dashed and Leader St. Barack actually loses come November? The odds of that look vanishingly small, at least at first blush. . .but the polls have this race looking tighter than the tone of the media coverage says it should.
So what if it happens? What if Obama is overexposed, and ordinary people, considering Obama, have the temerity, the pure gall to ignore the propaganda and what they're being told the world wants and decide that No. He. Can't? What if the bubble bursts?
Can the political system survive the anger of so many right-thinking people denied their Leader; their new Kennedy; their Messiah? Would the New Class that has taken over the Democratic Party and that constitutes the media and information elites that now rule us, take the defiance, the sacrilege and impudence of flyover country lying down?
I grant you that it's unlikely to happen. . .but it would be such fun if it did.

A) It is entirely possible Obama might loose. Charlie Cook says the race is a toss up at this stage. It will come down to Michigan, and those bitter white Bible hugging gun loving voters in Pennsylvania.
B) Were this to happen it would not cause distrust of the Media, it would be the result of distrust of the Media. Go to your favorite invstement website and pull up a 5 year chart of the NYT Stock Price. It will give you a good idea of how much influence the NYT has with people who are not members of the Columbia School of Journalisim Alumni Association.
C) I am more interested in what will happen if Obama wins, and all "57" States then get a 4 (not "8 to 10") year dose of the Carter Administrtion writ large.
If the size and hubirs of Obama's Campaign Staff are any indication of how he would govern, I find it hard to believe that he would have any degree of success in his administration. While the colapse of the Obama administration would not by itself create a new Reagan...(Reagan was a creation of Reagan, not of the times) it would mean that Obama and his policies and his supporters would have been discredited in the minds of much of the body politic.
What impact this would have on other Democratic Candidates, especially African-American ones, would be interesting to gage.

This is a quite absurd overstatement. The Washington Post op-ed page just ran a Robert Novak column arguing that McCain could "back into" victory, that Obama has not yet "closed the deal" with the electorate. (Note: not the Washington Times, the Washington Post, which has run Novak for decades.)
It's a little disingenuous to cite a Robert Novak op-ed piece as evidence of the Washington Post's (specifically) and the national media's (more general) objectivity concerning this election.
Do better. I know you're capable of it, I looked at your own blog, and you're pretty literate, much as I disagree with your world view.
Show me some evidence from the editorial page, or from the front pages. Find me a front page Washington Post story putting Obama in anything less than a favorable light. Try the same with the New York Times. Find me a week in which the column inches in the news section on Obama are less than those given to McCain. Find me a week that the major news anchors follow McCain around the way they did Obama. Show me some stuff like this, and I'll reconsider my opinion on the big media's objectivity.
In fact, I have no objection to the media supporting its candidate. I think expecting objectivity is, in general, stupid. What I find repulsive is the utter dishonesty of pretending to be objective.
I agree that one should not expect complete objectivity; I just think the media bias is not quite so pronounced as you
suggest. I am aware of one NYT editorial criticizing Obama. There may have been others.

I do wonder if the blog will be unlocked. I'll do whatever I can do to get back on line, but the Kingdom of Chaos appears to have become another statistic among a number of anti-Obama blogs having this issue. (see http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/256789) (Sorry to give you the link that way, but it doesn't appear to allow me to link either).
Rant to somebody about it, please, if (unlike moi) you have a clue who to rant to. No telling when, or if, this will be fixed.
