Apollo Fire

I remember lots of historical anniversaries, and it dawned on me this morning that I had forgotten to mark the anniversary of the 1967 Apollo 204 fire yesterday. I have posted on this once previously, and will not say more. A long-ago tragedy, forgotten by most, but not by me.

I remember it well. It was such a shock when Gus Grissom was killed -- he was one of the "original 3", with Shepherd and Glenn.

But I don't usually think of it with the "204" designation. Do you know what that number represents?

I honestly didn't even know this had happened. I might have learned about it on all those field trips we took to NASA when I was a kid, but I really don't remember it. The Challenger is what I remember.

I'm a big supporter of the space program, btw. I know we have plenty of things to spend our money on, but I feel it is an important endeavor, and I am always a little confused when people say we should do away with it.
